RAMI, RIZOMI, GIOCATTOLI

Sheets, soil, sage, rosemary, natural pigments, apricot and lemon wood, concrete, wire mesh.

Lecce, 2023

My investigations moved between Salento, Sicily and Lucania, focusing on death and the change that follows.

Rami, rizomi, giocattoli is a blend between the glances encountered in the Albergheria market in Palermo, the cemetery swathes of olive trees in Salento and the arboreal rites in the heart of Lucania. Talking about death in Southern Italy means reframing the topic on metamorphosis and resistance.

On the threshold I saw the persistence of life, stories of strength, rootedness and creative will. Voices of men and landscapes that change, burn and resist in a world that seeks the cure at the same time.

The work appears to be evolving, with an eye towards the future, taking space, recalling the flow of water and the persistence of nature.

It’s a praise to modern rituals, to tenacity, to the shreds that are held together, to create identities and new roots. The predominant materials of the work are alive and therefore destined to death, in its most dynamic sense, just like nature, humans and their rituals.
